What reviewers have to say about Thirty-five Counseling Techniques Every Counselor Should Know:
“The key strengths of the [book] are its practical nature and its detailed examples. The actual counseling transcripts are a real strength of the book; they make the descriptions of the techniques come alive, and I learned a lot from reading them.”
--Laura Choate, Louisiana State University
“The examples provided in this book help to bridge that gap between knowledge and practice in a way that very few texts do. The layout of the book is also simple, straight-forward, and very user-friendly; a perfect ‘reference’ book for beginning and seasoned counselors alike.”
--Sheri Anna Atwater, California State University, Los Angeles
“The key strength of this project is the focus on basic and specific techniques used in counseling. It is practical and immensely helpful….I also appreciate the ways the authors grounded the techniques in theory and provided diverse cases (school, college, community settings) and evaluation of the techniques.”

Great source for professionals practicing counseling
By Jason Berry
I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to learn various counseling techniques. I think it should be a mandatory text for introductory counseling courses. The authors do well in presenting a lot of ideas and techniques from different theoretical frameworks including cognitive, behavioral, gestalt, and psychoanalytical therapies. Both mental health professionals and school counselors will find this text beneficial. After years of reading several texts on counseling, it is nice to finally find a source that sums up and simplifies a great deal of evidence based counseling techniques.

This book is an excellent resource for counselors. I am a school counselor and find it extremely useful. One of my professors included this book in a list of references that all counselors should have. I refer to it often and agree with his recommendation...definitely a must have!
