The Taschen Posterbooks are of excellent quality. The six Van Gogh's given us here, for a very low price, are a nicely representative group. Primarily the most impressive factor is the accuracy with which the colors are reproduced. Having seen many in person, I am very critical of prints with poor to pathetic truth in color. We like them to the point of hanging all 6 in our home. The images are of the cafe at Arles-night, lane with cypresses, one of the sunflowers, one self-portrait, the bridge at Langlois and of course, the bedroom at Arles.
Regardless the amount of money you have to spend, definitely buy this little jewel as an adjunct. Or if you are tightly budgeted, what a buy!

A good read

Lane Cuthbert has had a plan for her life since she was very young. Not satisfied to simply inherit a position in her father's successful law firm, she has calculated every move she has made, from the college she attended to the jobs she's accepted, to move her in the direction of achieving her goal of being a legal commentator for a major TV network. All she needs now is one big, high profile case to catapult her to the fame she needs. Bryce Clayton is a reclusive, but very successful and powerful businesswoman. She's known for being difficult to get along with, but she's also fair, honest and drawn to take care of people who are in trouble. Her nemesis is Preston Garrett, a big bully of a rancher, who fights with Bryce every chance he gets and makes it clear to everyone in town that he intends to destroy her. When Garrett is murdered, the police don't consider anyone a suspect except Bryce and Lane has the case she believes will make her future. Bryce is as difficult a client as she is a person because she refuses to reveal where she was at the time of the murder. She's decided it's worth sitting in prison for twenty-five years to keep some secrets hidden. Lane will need all of her skills to keep that from happening, especially when she begins to realize that Bryce is more to her than just a client. As the case develops, Lane finds herself reevaluating her goals and Bryce discovers someone who may help her understand that her "secret" doesn't have to stay hidden.

O'Reilly has created two very strong women, neither of whom feels any reason to be weak so that the other one can dominate. She's surrounded them with a cast of engaging characters and a plot that is well put together. O'Reilly works the case with a strong sense of reality. No witness breaks down on the stand or suddenly loses control and admits to being the true murderer. Lane has to work her way through the trial using her skills and refuting the evidence as it is presented. Bryce stays true to her character throughout the book, avoiding the personality "change" that is so frequent in romances. The mystery of the murder is left hanging until the very end of the book and there is a dramatic scene at the end of the trial that will surprise readers. Deception has the characteristics that make a book pleasurable to read and a good way to spend a few hours.

Intense, ineteresting read

Erin O'Reilly has wriiten an a very interesting book, one that doesn't have the characters change their entire personalities by the end of the book. There is definite growth within Lane and, most certainly, Bryce but the "and love cures all" element does not happen. The book is intense as pain and fear are present in many of the characters but is handled well and by the end of the book, you get a real feel of where these emotions flowed from.

This is another well written book by this author. If you enjoy this book, make sure you read New Beginnings, which was co-written with JM Dragon. Both of these authors know how to write books that will stay with you after you finish.

A pleasurable read

This book held my attention from beginning to end. Most of the lesbian romance/mysteries give over to the romance and sex part of the story way too soon. Not this one. The characters get to develope, and you get a chance to know them as individuals, not a just the future half of a relationship. Lane doesn't change who she is, and Bryce stays true to form from beginning to end. The Perry Mason courtroom drama was fun to read.
A big point for me - I've read several books where the level of proofreading was non-existent leaving the reading experience a disappointment. Not this book. I so happy to have read this book.

Furedi is particularly opposed to the post-modernists who disparage writing in favor of oral culture, those who belittle the importance of reading. Despite the title, he does not really engage with e-reading or Twitter.

About the Author
Frederick Bettelheim was a distinguished university research professor at Adelphi University and a visiting scientist at the National Eye Institute. He co-authored seven editions of INTRODUCTION TO GENERAL, ORGANIC, AND BIOCHEMISTRY, ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, and several Laboratory Manuals. He is also the author of EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY and co-author of numerous monographs and research articles. Professor Bettelheim received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.

Joseph M. Landesberg is a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Adelphi University. He came to Adelphi University in the fall of 1966. Prior to that, he was at Columbia University where he took a postdoctoral position with Professor Gilbert Stork. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University, where he wrote his thesis under the guidance of Professor Roy A. Olofson. Dr. Landesberg did his undergraduate work at Rutgers University.

Kindle edition is useless.

It would be nice if you could print from the Kindle edition, you know -- pre-lab and post-lab questions.... the kind an instructor expects you to turn in. Unfortunately you cannot. I thought I'd save some paper and only print off the pages I would need to fill out and submit to the instructor, while leaving the pages I didn't need to turn in unprinted.

The rationale I got for not being able to print was Amazon was protecting the content of the publisher. Ok, I get DRM -- I don't really agree with it because it severely limits the legitimate uses one might have for the content, as in this case. It's all very silly anyway -- a simple script to take screenshots of all the pages and assemble them into a pdf completely circumvents any protections the DRM is supposed to provide. There is absolutely no reason to have this as a Kindle Edition if you are unable to print from it, other than to help Jeff Bezos build a mansion in outer space. Do yourself a favor, and don't waste your time with the Kindle version.

I am completely unhappy with this product. It was missing 8 of the 48 LAB report, 8 pre-lab questions and 8 post-lab questions..I wasted my money with this rental -- just buy it new. I understand some pages may be missing, but these are too many. Useless!!!!!

Daughters Thinking Outside the Box

"The Modern Murasaki" is one of those rare definitive anthologies, the kind that constitutes a cornerstone contribution to the field while being just in and of itself profoundly interesting and enjoyable to read cover to cover. Within its pages are translations of literary works written during the Meiji era (1868-1911) by Japanese women of various temperaments and backgrounds, all of whom though sought more out of life than the role of "good wife, wise mother" dictated to them. And it's a good thing they did, too, because modern Japanese literature would be much the poorer without the excellent stories, poems, plays, and essays found herein--highly thought-provoking or deeply moving, terribly heart-wrenching or wonderfully entertaining, but all noteworthy and significant.

In many respects too this is an important anthology. Of course it vastly expands the horizons of what we think of as Meiji literature, but the works here are also key representative texts rather than the footnotes of literary history; I know for certain that I have come across countless references to Kishida Toshiko's speech/essay "Daughters in Boxes" in who knows how many historical studies and such, but now finally I got the chance to actually read the real thing for myself. The translations are of an exceptional quality, too, carefully accurate and scholarly and yet vibrant and accessibly literary. Furthermore, the selections seem carefully chosen so as to be equally relevant both in terms of literature and social history, making this book extremely useful to scholars and students in both areas of inquiry--not to mention Women's Studies in general. Finally, the handy format of this book makes it ideal for classroom use so it should hopefully find its way to many a syllabus, and yet it's the perfect book to just sit back with at a coffee shop and read for good old-fashioned enjoyment's sake.

Nice series to Introduce a Young Audience to Many of the Greats

I teach sixth grade, and this book would be good for many of my students or late-elementary students. It does a great job of giving the reader an idea of who Edgar Allan Poe was, and what influenced his writing. "The Raven" is my favorite poem, and I have always been fascinated with Poe. His writing is some of the best that has ever been written, in my opinion. This book is a great way to introduce Poe to a younger audience, and I look forward to showing this to students to get them to see who this great American author truly was.

A delightful modern day fairy tale

I would give this a four star instead of five simply because it was far too short but that wouldn't be fair. I realize it was a novella but it ended too soon! We have all been entranced by fairy tales since we were children. This is a version for those of us a little older, but just as delightful. The characters are fun and believable with all the quirks and problems of our modern day world, but they still have the desires and needs of those characters we loved in the storybooks. The setting was a believable invented country that I'd love to visit in person instead of vicariously. The description was just enough to whet your appetite but not overcome the story. I can't wait for more of this - I believe it will be a series, as it should be. Readers will want more of these characters. Well done, Rachel Branton!

Fun romantic

This is a kindle world that is The Royals of Monterra from the book Royal Date by Sariah Wilson.

It is a novella. Only 93 pages. Wish it were longer though it does a nice job. it is romantic, funny and charming.

Amelia Lennox is working as a maid at the Lodge Royal. She has found out that she has a half sister who now is Queen of Monterra. Amelia has no other family.

Davide Ciano meets Amelia and is drawn to her right off. He has had bad experiences with women just wanting him for his title or money so he is planning to hide that he is a rich duke from her at first.

I loved the scene with them all riding in the woods. I admit I laughed a lot with them. Also liked the ball scenes.

I would read more books from Rachel Branton in the future.

For Anyone Who Loves Romance

This one was a really good contemporary romance where Amelia has come to Monterra to try to meet her long-lost sister and ends up meeting Davide. She is attracted to him, and they start to act on their feelings, but he's keeping a secret about who he really is, just as she doesn't mention who her sister really is. The romance is so good that I was flipping pages as fast as I could to see if they could survive the secrets coming out. Ms. Branton has written three-dimensional characters that were realistic and fun, with a hero and heroine you can't help but cheer on to a happy ending. Loved it!
